p>Minecraft-makers cancel film inspired by game

p>Mojang, the Minecraft maker, has intervened to stop the production of a movie set in the game's block-built world.

p>Just a few hours after the project had been started, it was pulled without explanation by the creator.

p>Markuss Persson, founder of Mojang later tweeted a tweet explaining why it was closing down.

p>"We don't allow [half-a-million-dollar Kickstarter projects] based on our [intellectual property] without any deals in place," wrote Mr Persson, also known as Notch, in a tweet.

p>The message is believed to refer to the absence of a licensing agreement negotiated between Mojang and the film makers to use items, blocks and other elements similar to those used in the game. The film was to be released on YouTube in 2014.

p>A teaser video was released on the Kickstarter project page. It showed concept footage that combines live action with creatures, landscapes and weapons.

/p>

p>Brandon Laatsch, the director of the short film, stated that he's been working for the idea for the Minecraft film for more than 12 years.

p>He said that he and other gamers who were part of the project were hoping that the final film would be better than the films based on well-known video games.

p>"Minecraft is the ideal video game that can be adapted to film," he said in the teaser video.

p>"The reason it doesn∏t have characters is that it doesn't have stories, which I believe is an enormous benefit, since we can write our own story."
