p>Adults and children alike aren't just playing Minecraft in their millions. They're watching YouTube videos made using Minecraft and those videos are receiving billions of views.

/p>

p>The online video company Octoly has released a report aiming to quantify that the number of times, claiming that as of June 2014, Minecraft videos had been watched 30.8 billion times, with only 183 million views coming from the channel of Mojang, the game's publisher.

/p>

p>It's more than three times the number of views for videos about Grand Theft Auto, which Octoly said was the second most watched gaming brand on YouTube with more than 12 billion views, ahead of Call of Duty (10.2 billion), Angry Birds (six billion) and Halo (4.8 billion).

/p>

p>According to the company, Minecraft videos have been viewed an additional 16 billion times since June, bringing the total to 47.4 billion views. "In June our Octoly360 system identified 81,000 distinct YouTube creators who were talking about Minecraft," explained Octoly. "Today there are 147,000 creator channels featuring Minecraft videos, almost double."

p>Minecraft being so much ahead of other brands shouldn't be a shock to anyone who's been following the game or the development of YouTube in the past few years.

/p>

p>In a chart of the top 100 YouTube channels in September 2014, which was published by the industry website Tubefilter, using data from analytics firm OpenSlate?, the child-friendly Minecraft channel Stampy was the third most popular channel in the world , with 189.6 million views in September.

/p>

p>Also popular that month were channels that had a heavy or total Minecraft focus, including Vegetta (eighth in the world with 164 million views in September) and The Diamond Minecart (10th with 161.8 million).

/p>

p>Mojang has been a partner to its YouTube community since the early days of Minecraft by avoiding copyright disputes with creators of videos, and not allowing any input to the content of their videos.

/p>

p>"We have lots of people who earn their living making videos about Minecraft. The economics of it all how many people make money from this IP - is pretty awesome," Mojang's chief operating officer Vu Bui told the Guardian in October.

/p>

p>"That isn't taking anything away from us I'd say it actually enhances the value of Minecraft, to have people who are extremely talented and creative in their work. We've essentially outsourced YouTube videos to a community of millions of people and the content they create is more creative than anything we could ever create ourselves."

/p>

p>YouTube is a large factor in the reason that Minecraft is such a strong, well-loved gaming brand in 2014 - and an important reason for Microsoft's decision purchase Mojang for $2.5bn this summer.

/p>

p>Microsoft isn't just buying a game that's sold over 54 million copies across computer consoles, mobiles and consoles: it's buying one of the world's biggest television brands. Despite its huge popularity online, it is not on television in the traditional sense. https://motorsnmore.net/ </p>
