p>A British man hopes to break the record of the world for the longest game played continuously in Minecraft.

p>Joe Kelly, of Cheltenham Joe Kelly, from Cheltenham, played for 35 hours 35 minutes and 35 seconds, bringing in PS1,800 to fund cancer research.

p>Martin Fornleitner, Austria, set the record for 24 hours and 10 minutes in 2011.

/p>

p>Minecraft involves building structures using blocks, exploring the world and fighting in battles.

/p>

p>The title has been sold for more than 54 million copies around the world.

/p>

p>Microsoft purchased Mojang the studio behind it for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) last year.

/p>

p>Mr Kelly is the director of an entertainment company and is voice actor is playing the game since buying a pre-development version in 2010, but typically is on the game for a couple of hours a week.

/p>

p>He stated to BBC that he was able to stay awake and alert without caffeine, and it wasn't too difficult.

/p>

p>"There were no stimulants , except for sugar and stubbornness."

/p>

p>Mr. Kelly who streamed the entire match on YouTube, added that the incident had taken its toll on his hands.

p>"My back and shoulders weren't hurting, nor did my shoulders ache. The worst thing was my fingers.

/p>

p>"They hurt so bad just from holding the mouse and keyboard for so long.

/p>

p>"Every tiny break I took I was stretching my fingers."

/p>

p>Mr Kelly and his girlfriend, Sarah Vallance, are now in the process of providing evidence of the feat to Guinness World Records.
