/p>

p>The Tate Gallery is going to exhibit some of its most acclaimed works in 3D form, in the virtual world of the computer game Minecraft. Is this a great way to appreciate art?

/p>

p>Have you ever thought of entering an art piece and doing some research?

/p>

p>The Tate is inviting people to clamber over its artworks and take a good look.

/p>

p>There will be no security guards on duty.

/p>

p>It has teamed up to the Minecraft creators which is an online computer game where millions of players meticulously build fantasy worlds block-by-block - to create 3D versions for two of its paintings for the form of a virtual gallery.

/p>

p>Andre Derain's 1906 painting The Pool of London, and Christopher Nevinson's depiction of New York, Soul of the Soulless City (1920) is the first pair to receive this digital, 3D makeover.

/p>

p>Jane Burton, Tate Media's Creative Director, explains that visitors will see a white cube that is the Tate Gallery.

/p>

p>"You enter the room with the painting in front of you.

/p>

p>"What you can do now is take a walk towards the painting and dive into it. This is where your adventure begins."

/p>

p>Enter the art

/p>

p>Visitors will have the chance to interact with the world of the painting.

/p>

p>You will be able to take a train ride and get a passing view of Nevinson's cityscape, for example. Take a break for lunch while waiting for construction workers to finish the high-rises.

/p>

p>Visitors should be wary of pirates along the Thames when visiting Derain's photo. They can also experiment with explosive paint pigments.

/p>

p>"You will be able to explore the activities and challenges that relate to the themes of art.

/p>

p>"It's art, history and adventure," says Jane Burton who's children introduced her to the magic of Minecraft.

/p>

p>The idea to exhibit in Minecraft was originally conceived by artist Adam Clarke, who is an established creator in the Minecraft community.

/p>

p>He suggested the idea for Tate's IK Prize. This prize is given to an idea that makes use of digital technology to encourage people in the arts. http://silverbirches19341.com/members/menbreath30/activity/73434/ </p>

p>When the idea finally came to fruition, Tate enlisted the skills of other celebrity Minecraft builders such as Dragnoz, Kupo, Featherblade and Tewkesape to build the worlds that were influenced by the famous photos.

/p>

p>But not everyone is convinced.

/p>

p>Perspective

/p>

p>These Minecraft creations will provide younger and newer audiences familiarity with artworks, and when they see the originals in a gallery, it's similar to "seeing an old friend", says Times art critic Rachel Campbell Johnston.

/p>

p>This feeling of recognition, "like seeing celebrities", is a powerful tool for art appreciation and encouraging audiences.

/p>

p>"But paradoxically, the Minecraft works themselves offer a flatter experience," she continues.

/p>

p>"It is more of an entertainment experience instead of a creative connection with the painting when [Minecrafts's] 3D mapping replaces the real painting's illusionistic surfaces, and does the work for you."

/p>

p>Digital opening

/p>

p>The two works by Derain and Nevinson will be available to download on Monday.

/p>

p>Players have to pay to join the Minecraft community, but the maps that are available for download of Tate's images are free.

/p>

p>With six more 3D masterpieces planned Many will be watching with interest to see how long the queues are on Monday, when Tate's Minecraft exhibition opens its digital doors.
