p>Adults and children alike aren't playing Minecraft in millions of people: they're also watching YouTube videos that were created using Minecraft and they are receiving billions of views.

/p>

p>The online video company Octoly has released a study aiming to quantify that, claiming that by June 2014, Minecraft videos had been watched 30.8 billion times, with only 183 million views coming from the channel of Mojang the game's creator.

/p>

p>This is nearly three times the views for videos about Grand Theft Auto, which Octoly believed was the second most popular gaming brand on YouTube with close to 12 billion views, which is ahead of Call of Duty (10.2 billion), Angry Birds (six billion) and Halo (4.8 billion).

/p>

p>According to the company, Minecraft videos have been watched 16 billion times since June, bringing its total to 47.4 billion views. Octoly explained that Octoly360 discovered 81,000 YouTube creators discussing Minecraft in June. "Today, there are almost twice the number of creator channels with Minecraft videos than there were in June." Octoly explained.

p>Minecraft being so much ahead of other brands shouldn't be a shock to anyone who's been following the game or the development of YouTube in the past couple of years.

/p>

p>In a chart of the top 100 YouTube channels in September 2014, published by the industry website Tubefilter using data from analytics firm OpenSlate?, the child-friendly Minecraft channel Stampy was the third largest channel in the world with 189.6 million views that month. https://www.click4r.com/posts/g/6548039/portabliss-vvvvvv-3ds-eshop </p>

p>Also popular that month were channels with a heavy or total Minecraft focus, such as Vegetta (eighth in the world with 164 million views in September) and The Diamond Minecart (10th with 161.8 million).

/p>

p>Mojang has been a partner to its YouTube community since the early days of Minecraft and has avoided copyright disputes with video creators, and taking a hands-off approach to the content of their videos.

/p>

p>"We have lots of people who make their living by making videos about Minecraft. Vu Bui Mojang's chief operating director said to the Guardian that the profits of Minecraft are amazing.

/p>

p>"That isn't taking any of our advantages I'd say that it can be beneficial to Minecraft, to have people who are highly skilled and creative doing things. We've essentially outsourced YouTube videos to a global community of millions of people, and the content they create is far more inventive than anything we could make ourselves."

/p>

p>YouTube is a big factor in the reason that Minecraft is such a popular and well-loved gaming brand in 2014 - and also a notable reason for Microsoft's decision purchase Mojang for $2.5bn this summer.

/p>

p>Microsoft isn't just buying a game that has sold more than 54m copies across mobile, console, and computer platforms. It's also purchasing one of the biggest television brands in the world. Despite its massive popularity online, it's not shown on traditional television.
