p>Minecraft-makers cancel film inspired by game

p>Minecraft-maker Mojang has intervened to block the making of a film that is set in the game's block-built world.

p>The makers of Birth of a Man had launched an appeal on Kickstarter for $600,000 (PS366,000) to finance the production of the film.

/p>

p>But barely a day after the project was started, it was pulled with no explanation by its creator.

/p>

p>Markuss Persson, founder of Mojang later tweeted a tweet explaining why it was shutting down.

/p>

p>"We don't allow [half-a-million-dollar Kickstarter projects] based on our [intellectual property] without any deals in place," wrote Mr Persson, also known as Notch, in a tweet.

/p>

p>According to some, the message is referring to the fact that Mojang and the film makers did not agree to use the same blocks, items, and other elements used in the game. The film was set to be released on YouTube in 2014.

p>A teaser video was posted on the Kickstarter project page. https://contestalert.in/members/cribarm4/activity/8001/ It showcased the concept footage that blends live action with creatures, landscapes, and weapons.

p>In the short film, director Brandon Laatsch said he had been developing the idea for a Minecraft film for more than a year.

/p>

p>As he and others involved with the project were dedicated gamers, he was hopeful that the finished film would be better than other films made based on popular games, he stated.

/p>

p>"Minecraft is the perfect video game to be adapted to the film," he said in the teaser video.

/p>

p>"The reason is that it doesn't have a protagonist and does not have a story, which to me is a big benefit because we can make up our own unique story."

/p>

p>Mr. Laatsch has yet to provide a comment on the reason why the project was scrapped or if it's likely to be revived after negotiations with Mojang about licensing its intellectual property.
