p>The original 1993 Doom, the progenitor of more than three decades of shooters is still alive and kicking. The game has been portable to nearly every platform you can imagine but it's much more than just a meme. Community mods such as Brutal Doom, which have access to the source code of the original game, have helped keep the original game in high-quality after it was outclassed by newer games. The latest addition to the beloved shooter is the latest lighting effects that ray-trace. https://mpservers.net/ </p>

p>This isn't the first time we've seen high-tech lighting mixed with low-tech visuals. The infamously bloated Minecraft has official Nvidia-branded RTX support and Nvidia revamped Quake II to show off what full-blown path tracing can appear like. Every PC player is able to download the Doom mod for no cost. It's particularly dramatic in Doom's sci-fi setting that is it's a Martian colony that is infested by hoards of ravenous monsters. Realistically rendered shadows and reflections of plasma ammunition, fireballs, and pools of lava showcase just how good lighting can accomplish even for Doom's basic polygon environments and sprite enemy.

p>The effects can be seen in action in the video below, which is from PCWorld's YouTube channel. There is also a guide on how to enable it and play Doom with the gorgeous lights your own.

p>The PrBoom? mod comes from the programmer Sultim Tsyrendashiev. He's also integrated support for Nvidia DLSS and other popular tweaks, such as an always-on in-game flashlight. To play the mod at its best you'll require a powerful PC, however DLSS can to ease the load. You can still play the first three episodes of Doom. However, you might need to open the settings file in order to achieve optimal performance. You can download the mod files and the source code from Github.
