p>Jared Hess will direct the film, which is based on the 2011 video game. Momoa also starred in the Warner Bros. movies Aquaman and Dune. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported the Minecraft news.

p>Warner Bros. first revealed that they had a Minecraft movie was in development eight years ago. The originally planned release date for Minecraft was March 4 2022. However, the date was postponed indefinitely because of the pandemic. The movie has not been updated in the last eight years.

p>Minecraft, one of the best-selling games ever allows players to explore 3D worlds in which they can create items, extract materials and build structures. The live-action film will join a stack of other video game-based films that have been released in recent years which include Sonic the Hedgehog (and its sequel), Uncharted and 2021's Mortal Kombat.

p>The film's producers include Lydia Winters and Vu Bui of Minecraft developer Mojang Studios. http://www.sectionaltitlecentre.co.za/members/designbus2/activity/251867/ Mary Parent and Roy Lee are also producing. Jill Messick, who worked on the film prior to her death in 2018 will be awarded a posthumous producer credit. Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts are the film's executive producers.
