p>Adults and children alike aren't playing Minecraft in their millions: they're watching YouTube videos created using Minecraft and they are getting billions of views.

/p>

p>Octoly, an online video company, has published a report that attempts to quantify this. It states that Minecraft videos were watched 30.8 billion times as of June 2014. Only 183 million of those views were from Mojang the publisher of Mojang.

/p>

p>This is almost three times more views for Grand Theft Auto videos. Octoly estimates that Grand Theft Auto was the second most watched gaming brand on YouTube with more than 12 billion views. It was ahead of Call of Duty (10.2 Billion), Angry Birds (6 Billion) and Halo (4.8 Billion).

/p>

p>The company claims that since June, Minecraft videos have been watched another 16 billion times, taking its total to 47 billion views. Octoly has explained that Octoly360 found 81,000 YouTube creators talking about Minecraft in June. "Today there are 147,000 creator channels with Minecraft videos, almost double."

p>Minecraft being so far ahead of rival brands shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has been following the game or the development of YouTube in the past couple of years.

/p>

p>Tubefilter published a chart listing the top 100 YouTube channels in September 2014. It utilized data from analytics company OpenSlate? to reveal that Stampy, a child-friendly Minecraft channel, was the third largest with 189.6 millions views.

/p>

p>Popular channels with a heavy or complete Minecraft focus were also popular in September, such as Vegetta (8th in the world with 164 million views in September) as well as The Diamond Minecart (10th spot with 161.8 million).

/p>

p>Mojang has been a partner to its YouTube community since the beginning of Minecraft, avoiding copyright arguments with video creators, and avoiding any interference to the content of their videos.

/p>

p>"We have a lot of people who earn a money by making videos about Minecraft. Vu Bui Mojang's chief operating director has told the Guardian that the profits of Minecraft are incredible.

/p>

p>"That does not take any of our advantages I'd say it actually can be beneficial to Minecraft that we have people who are highly skilled and creative in their work. We've basically outsourced YouTube videos to a community of millions of people and the content they create is far more inventive than anything we could make by ourselves."

/p>

p>YouTube is a large factor in the reason that Minecraft is such a popular well-loved and popular gaming brand in 2014. It's also a major factor in Microsoft's decision to buy Mojang for $2.5bn this summer.

/p>

p>Microsoft isn't just buying a game that has sold over 54m copies across mobile, console and computer platforms. It's also buying one of the biggest television brands in the world. Despite its huge popularity online, it's not shown on traditional television. https://faxsys.com/ </p>
