The Beano's Dennis, Gnasher and Walter join Minecraft By Emily Thomas Newsbeat reporter

Minecraft players must keep an eye out for "softy" Walter and his stinky pants.

Walter, Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher from The Beano, can now be added to PC versions of the game.

Gnasher can be made as a sausage by players, and all of Dennis' pranks, such as catapults and stink bombs can be employed.

It's part of the Beano's bigger plans to expand into digital media and its model has emerged from a collaboration between the show and Frima Studios, a Canadian multiplatform game developer.

Mark Cotton, who is the Beano's chief digital officer, said to Newsbeat: "If you talk to any 7-11-year-old child, Minecraft is pretty much their most fervent love and passion."

Mark says that the game is an "extension" of the comic and a way to make The Beano "a more overall experience" for kids.

"Roughly 32,000 comics are sold every week of the Beano - so still an extremely healthy amount," he says.

But it's still far less than the two million magazines sold at the height of the magazine's popularity. https://lionsroar.name/

"We are well aware that kids today have a passion for digital," Mark says. Mark.

"We must create The Beano a 360 brand which means that Dennis and Gnasher are everywhere the children are, instead of expecting them to visit our store.

"So we're working to complete a series of videos over the coming three to six months."

There are puzzle apps, interactive comics, and an "action 3-D game for children".

DC Thompson, The Beano's publisher, has already expanded the brand to include a TV show and a photo-sharing app and YouTube channel.

Grand Theft Auto?

The comic's been around since 1938 and has a lot of adult fans. The Beano characters could also make an appearances in adult games, like Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto.

"No. That's not something we'd focus on at the moment," says Mark.

"We're focusing on the 7 to 11-year-old digital product - for the moment, digital is about truly engaging with kids and knowing their interests."

They've been working with a group of 10 Minecraft and Beano fans aged 7-11 during the development process.

Minnie the Minx

"We mostly asked children"If you were to put Beano into Minecraft What do you think?'

"This was their first step towards thinking about what they wanted. Their imaginations can go way beyond what we can do at the moment.

"But they wanted pranks, they wanted Walter they wanted Gnasher They wanted to dress up as Dennis and that's the thing we've given them.

"We'll continue to communicate with them. We'd like to extend this and to build Beanotown and let children be creative.

"Minecraft is so beloved because it gives power to children. We can't force the children to do something, and they would reject it.

Will any other characters get a look in?

Mark says, "We certainly want to extend it."

"The obvious character and the one the kids have been looking for is Minnie the Minx so that's what we'd likely take a look at next."
