The Beano's Dennis, Gnasher and Walter join Minecraft By Emily Thomas Newsbeat reporter

Minecraft players should be on the watch for Walter "softy" and his stinky pants.

Walter, Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher, from The Beano, can now be added to PC versions of the game.

Gnasher can be made an ointment by players and all of Dennis' pranks, such as stink bombs and catapults, can be employed.

It's part of the Beano's wider plans to expand into digital media and its model has emerged from a partnership between the show and Frima Studios, a Canadian multiplatform game developer.

Mark Cotton, who is leading the Beano's digital changes Mark Cotton, who is leading the Beano's digital transformations, said to Newsbeat: "If you talk to any 7 to 11-year-old child, Minecraft is probably their most fervent love and passion."

Mark says the game is an "extension" of the comic and an attempt to make The Beano "a more overall experience" for kids.

He says that 32,000 comics are sold every Week of the Beano which is an impressive figure.

But it's still far less than the two million copies sold at the magazines' peak.

Mark says, "We are very conscious that today's kids are passionate about digital."

"We have to transform The Beano into an all-encompassing brand where Dennis and Gnasher is everywhere kids are, instead expecting that they will come to us.

"So we're working on a variety of initiatives in the next three to six months."

Some of these initiatives include puzzle apps, an interactive comic, and an "action 3D game for kids".

The Beano's publisher DC Thompson has already extended the brand onto a TV show, a photo-sharing app and YouTube channel.

Grand Theft Auto?

The comic has been around since 1938 and has a lot of adult fans. So might the Beano characters make an appearance in any adult games - Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto perhaps?

"No. Mark says, "No.

"We're focused on the 7 to 11-year-old digital product - for the moment, digital for us is about engaging with kids and understanding their passions."

And to do that they've consulted an advisory group of 10 7 to 11-year-old Beano and Minecraft fans throughout the development process.

Minnie the Minx

"We basically asked children"If Beano were to be in Minecraft, what would it look like?

"This was the first stage of what they envisioned. Their imaginations are able to go far beyond what we are able to do right now.

"But they wanted Pranks They wanted Walter, they wanted Gnasher, they wanted to dress up as Dennis, and that's what we've offered them.

"We'll continue to talk to them. We want to expand this and create Beanotown to allow kids to be creative. http://test.vnushator.ru/members/hubcapstring52/activity/624943/

"Minecraft is so beloved because it gives the power to children. We cannot force children to do something and they'd resent it.

Are there any other characters that might be allowed in?

Mark says, "We certainly want to extend it."

"The obvious character and the ones the kids have been looking for is Minnie the Minx so we'd most likely look at next."
