<p>Mojang's breakout smash Minecraft came in second place on Google's list of the top YouTube search terms of 2014. It was ranked just behind "music" in terms of the frequency of searches.

<p>According to Google the word "Minecraft" was more frequently searched on YouTube in 2014 than the term "movies." PewDiePie is a popular gaming character, was also among the top searched terms on YouTube in 2014. This was behind queries for Disney's Frozen as well as for musicians Drake and Beyonce.

<p>Google reports that users are increasingly searching for gaming-related content, and are engaging more frequently with them even though a majority of those surveyed don't identify as gamers. YouTube videos that fall under the "Gamingcategory were listed on the Top 10 Trending List of Google Search on a variety of days in October 2014.

<p>"A Google Consumer Survey fielded in October 2014 of those who reported watching gaming videos on YouTube found that only a small portion of this group (37%) considers themselves 'gamers"" the report says. "When asked about their motivations for watching gaming videos, viewers mentioned 'entertainment' and 'humor when they were asked about 'learning new strategies' or 'game tips'.'"

<p>The report continues: "We also wanted out why they watched the videos of creators such as SkyDoesMinecraft and PewDiePie. Many fans replied, "Because they are hilarious!" Some even compared these videos to stand-up comedy. One of the game's upcoming creators summed up his interest by using the following metaphor: "You don't need to play soccer to enjoy it TV."
