The Beano's Dennis, Gnasher and Walter join Minecraft By Emily Thomas Newsbeat reporter

Minecraft players must look out for "softy" Walter and his stinky pants.

You can now add Walter, Dennis, the Menace and Gnasher from The Beano to the PC version of the game.

Players can make a sausage for Gnasher and make use of all of Dennis his most effective pranks including catapults, stink bombs.

It's part of the Beano's larger plans to expand into digital and its mod has come from a collaboration between the animated series and Frima Studios, a Canadian multiplatform game developer.

Mark Cotton, who is leading digital changes at Beano, told Newsbeat that Minecraft is "their biggest passion and their most passionate love"

Mark says that the game is an extension of the comic and a way of making The Beano "a more holistic experience" for kids.

He states that 32,000 comics are sold every week of the Beano which is a healthy number.

However, it's a lot less than the two million sold at the height of the magazine's popularity.

Mark says, "We are very conscious that our kids today are passionate about technology."

"We must create The Beano a 360-degree brand, where Dennis and Gnasher are everywhere children are, instead of expecting them to come to our store.

"So we're working on complete a series of videos over the coming three to six months."

There are puzzle apps as well as interactive comics and an "action 3-D game for children".

The Beano's publisher DC Thompson has already extended the brand's reach to a television show, a photo-sharing application and YouTube channel.

Grand Theft Auto?

The comic's been in existence since 1938 and has plenty of adult fans. Also, could the Beano characters make an appearance in any adult-oriented games? Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto perhaps?

"No. That's not something we'd focus on right now," says Mark.

"We are focused on the 7-11-year-old digital product. At the moment digital is all about engaging with children and understanding their interests.

They've been working with 10 Minecraft and Beano enthusiasts aged 7-11 during the development process.

Minnie the Minx

"We mostly asked children, 'If you put Beano into Minecraft, what do you think you would see?

"This was the initial stage of what they envisioned. https://writeablog.net/cubcard19/this-minecraft-redstone-chicken-mini-game-is-confusing-but-amazing Obviously their imaginations go a lot further than we could ever imagine at the moment.

"But they wanted pranks They wanted Walter they wanted Gnasher, they wanted to dress up as Dennis and that's exactly what we've offered them.

"We'll continue to communicate with them. We want to expand this and create Beanotown so that kids can be creative.

"Minecraft is so loved because it gives power to children. We can't force the children to do something, but they would reject it.

Will other characters also get a glimpse?

Mark says, "We certainly want to extend it."

"The obvious character and the ones the kids have been asking for is Minnie the Minx so we'd most likely consider next."
