The mod was created in collaboration with the cartoonist and Frima Studios, which is a Canadian multiplatform game developer.

Mark Cotton, who is leading digital changes at Beano Mark Cotton, who is the head of digital at Beano Newsbeat that Minecraft is "their biggest passion and greatest love"

Mark states that the game is an extension of the comic and a way of making The Beano "a more holistic experience" for children.

He says that 32,000 comics are sold each week during the Beano that is an impressive figure.

It's still a lot from the two million copies sold during the peak of the magazines.

"We are very aware kids today are captivated by digital technology," Mark says. Mark.

"We must make The Beano a 360 brand that is where Dennis and Gnasher are everywhere kids are, rather than waiting for them to visit our store.

"So we're working on a whole series of initiatives in the next three to six months."

Among them are puzzle games as well as interactive comics and an "action 3-D game for kids".

The Beano's publisher DC Thompson has already extended the brand onto a TV show, a photo sharing app and a YouTube channel.

Grand Theft Auto?

The comic has been around since 1938 and has plenty of adult fans. Also, could the Beano characters appear in any adult-oriented games? Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto perhaps?

"No. Mark says, "No.

"We're focussing on the 7-11-year-old digital product - for the moment digital for us is about truly engaging with kids and understanding their passions."

They've been working with a group of 10 Minecraft and Beano enthusiasts aged 7-11 throughout the creation process.

Minnie the Minx

"We basically asked children"If Beano were to be in Minecraft What would it look like?

"This was the beginning of what they imagined. Evidently, their imaginations are much greater than we can possibly do for the time being.

"But they wanted to play pranks. They wanted Walter, Gnasher and Dennis. That's what they got.

"We'll continue to communicate with them. Our goal is to expand this and build Beanotown and let kids create their own ideas.

"Minecraft is so popular because it gives power to children. We cannot force children to do something, but they'd be resistant.

Are there any other characters who will be featured?

"We certainly want to extend it," says Mark.

"Minnie the Minx is the obvious persona and the one that the kids have been asking about. So I'd likely look at next."
