V’s response was typical. She highlighted the poisonous attitude that VK was writing about. She obviously didn’t read his post thoroughly, but instead picked out the words and sentences she disagreed with. We as men want to better ourselves in part by seeing more of the world outside of the US, and we want to learn languages to be more able to communicate with the women in those countries. And you, as women, would be better served by doing the same. You might be interesting enough for American men to take interest in you. And maybe seeing hotter women in other countries might inspire you to step YOUR game up. Silly trick.

I agree with you that language helps one move past certain barriers, however competency in both the language and culture of the target group are essential. I can’t just speak portuguese to the Brazilian chicks at the club and introduce myself in the Anglo-American manner (handshake); I have to pull her in and give her 2 kisses on the cheeks. I can’t make her laugh about an american joke in portuguese, i have to tell a joke that has some kind of cultural relevance to that is linked with the target language and vice-versa.

“And almost always, they tend to be nicer than the English speakers.”
